Police officer arrested for harassing female victim remanded

General Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah was arrested over the weekend for allegedly sexually harassing a victim in a viral video.

General Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah, the police officer who was arrested for sexually harassing a female victim has been remanded by the Sunyani District Court B.

A statement issued by the Police on Monday (29 November ) said he  pleaded not guilty to two charges levelled against him namely assault and indecent assault.

“Prosecutors of the Ghana Police Service today, Monday, November 29, 2021, placed No.51530 General Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah of the Bono Regional Police Command, before the Sunyani District Court B to face charges of assault contrary to Section 84 of the Criminal Offences Act 29 and indecent assault contrary to Section 103 of the Criminal Offences Act 29.”

He is expected to reappear on Wednesday 1 December .

A statement issued by the Police on Saturday (27 November) said the Inspector General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare has reached out to the victim and assured her of thorough investigation and any other necessary support.

“The Police Administration has seen a video in which a person in a police uniform was captured allegedly harassing a female in a car.”Video Player00:0000:10“On reviewing the video , the Police Administration immediately launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary investigation indicates that the male person involved in that shameful and despicable act is a police officer stationed at the regional operations unit , Bono Regional Police Command.”

The Police Officer No 51530 General Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah, has been arrested for violating the dignity of the victim and is currently assisting with investigations,” the police statement said.

The Police has therefore apologised to the victim and the general public.

” We unreservedly apologise to the affected woman in particular for what she experienced and to the public at large since the matter affects the very moral foundation of our country.”
