Accident on the Accra-Cape-Coast highway has resulted in more than 50 people sustaining injuries.


A multi-vehicle accident at the Gomoa Okyereko junction on the Accra-Cape-Coast highway has left two passengers in critical condition and 55 others with minor injuries. The incident involved three vehicles: a Yutong bus registered as AS-850-21, an articulated truck with the foreign registration number plate 349 HF 01, and a Honda CR-V registered as GW-970-20.

According to the police, all the passengers aboard the Yutong bus were traveling from Ho in the Volta Region, heading towards Ivory Coast. James Nii Ayi, the driver of the Honda CR-V, spoke to the media and stated that the articulated truck was involved in a dangerous overtaking maneuver, leading to the accident.

James Ayi provided additional information, stating that the Yutong bus collided with the back of his vehicle following the wrongful overtaking maneuver, which was the cause of the accident.

Emergency services promptly transported the injured individuals to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, authorities are actively conducting investigations to ascertain the precise cause of the accident and establish accountability for those involved.
